2014 64 plate 2.2D possible injector faults

Postby RehabBreach » Wed Sep 21, 2022 1:31 pm

Hi all

I have a 64 plate transit 2.2d, i started it up a few days ago and sounded like it was running in 3 cylinders, really lumpy and wouldn't go above 1500 RPM, I didn't have time to plug it in to Forscan before today, started it up today and it still sounded rough but didn't sound like it was running on 3 cylinders and would rev passed 1500 RPM no problem.

I read the cylinder balance with Forscan and got the following results, these are all the lowest figures, scanned for 60 seconds after engine running for 5 mins and at tickover:

CYLBAL_1 - 1.17
CYLBAL_2 - 0.85
CYLBAL_3 - 0.99
CYLBAL_4 - 0.83

And the ones below are the maximum figures taken at the same time:

CYLBAL_1 - 1.2
CYLBAL_2 - 0.89
CYLBAL_3 - 1.03
CYLBAL_4 - 0.87

Unfortunately I don't have any data to cross reference with my data, but looking at the figures I am assuming there is a problem somewhere, does anybody have the correct data available for me to cross reference with?

When I revved the engine to 1200 RPM or above all 4 cylinders were reporting back 1.00007936 Kpa.

There is a fault code stored, P2539 - Low pressure fuel system sensor circuit. I have logged the fuel rail pressure and the desired fuel rail pressure and got the following results, engine running for around 6 mins, tested for 60 seconds at tickover:

FRP - 23600 Kpa (lowest reading)
FRP - 25130 Kpa (highest reading)

DSD_FRP - 24660 Kpa (lowest reading)
DSD_FRP - 25130 Kpa (highest reading)

I can see the lowest reading on the FRP could cause a fault code, although it only dropped to 23600 for a split second, it was mostly reading in the 24000 Kpa range, so I am not convinced this is the major fault.

Exhaust fumes are clean in colour but has a very weird smell to it, cant really put an explanation to it.

As anyone had any other problems like this in the past or has access to what the correct values should be for the cylinder balance?

I will be doing a leak off test and compression test next, not sure when, but I will report back my findings.

TIA
