2018 ecoblue 2.0 105bhp to 170bhp

Postby adwolves » Sat Feb 24, 2024 7:47 am

Hi all I've recently Purchased a 2018 jumbo 2.0 ecoblue 105bhp

No I've been reading that the engine also comes in a 130bhp and 170bhp version and this can be altered using forscan software?

So is it completely safe if I had my 105bhp changed to the 170bhp version?

Thanks in advance

Yes, you can very easily with FORScan.

All the components like injectors, turbo and so are the same among the three versions.

Cheers,

David

Exactly the same as I said. Only difference is the map used.

You'll notice a big improvement and maybe even a mpg improvement.

I strongly advise against modifying your engine's power output using software like Forscan. Here's why:

1. Safety Concerns:

Altering the engine's power output can significantly impact its performance and handling. The vehicle has been designed, tested, and certified for the original 105bhp configuration. Increasing the power output could:
Strain the engine, transmission, and drivetrain components: This can lead to premature wear and tear, increasing the risk of breakdowns and potential accidents.
Affect braking performance: The brakes might not be equipped to handle the increased power, compromising your ability to stop safely.
Impact vehicle stability and handling: The suspension and other systems might not be optimized for the higher power, potentially leading to loss of control.
2. Warranty Voiding:

Modifying the engine's software through unauthorized methods like Forscan can void your vehicle's warranty. This means any repairs necessary due to the modification or related issues won't be covered by the manufacturer.
3. Legal Issues:

In some regions, modifying your vehicle's performance beyond its certified specifications can be illegal and lead to fines or even vehicle impounding.
4. Lack of Professional Expertise:

Modifying engine software requires significant knowledge and expertise to ensure it's done safely and effectively. Attempting it yourself without proper training can lead to serious consequences.
Recommendation:

Instead of risking the safety and legal implications of modifying your engine, consider these alternatives:

Enjoy your vehicle as it is: The 105bhp engine is likely sufficient for most driving conditions, and maintaining original specifications ensures optimal performance and safety.
Trade in for a higher-powered model: If you truly desire more power, consider trading your current vehicle for a factory-built model with the desired engine configuration. This ensures the vehicle is designed and certified for its specific power output.
Remember, prioritize safety and responsible vehicle ownership. Avoid modifications that could compromise your safety and the safety of others on the road.

Yes, we seem to be getting a few of these lately. Whilst some points about the insurance and wear and tear are valid, the rest are scaremongering, and should be taken with a large pinch of salt :!:

Is this the same for a 2021 transit mk9 2.0 eco blue ?
I have seen there is multiple maps in the ecu named with different hp ( using Forscan )

Also , if it is put back to std map before going into the garage for work , would they be able to see it had been ran on a different setting for a while ?
TIA

While modifying engine output through software like Forscan might be tempting, it's strongly discouraged for several reasons:

Safety Concerns: Altering engine performance can impact your vehicle's handling, braking, and overall safety. It may not be designed to handle the increased power, potentially leading to breakdowns or accidents.
Warranty Issues: Modifying the engine software can void your vehicle's warranty, leaving you responsible for any repairs or damages arising from the modification.
Legality: Depending on your region, modifying engine performance without proper certification might be illegal and could lead to fines or even vehicle impounding.
Instead of risking safety and legality, consider exploring safer and authorized options. You could:

Consult a professional tuner: If you're set on increasing power, seek a licensed tuner who can safely and legally modify your engine within its designed limits.
Enjoy the 105bhp: This engine option is likely well-suited for the vehicle and offers a balance of performance and efficiency.
