2016 Transit 1500, 106k miles - malfunctioning door lock swi

Postby Peter_B » Tue Feb 10, 2026 5:25 am

Greetings-

On the driver’s side door panel, door lock switch is malfunctioning.

Passenger side works fine. Driver’s side you push lock unlock nada ?

I ordered a new switch due in a few days but I’m not sure that’s the problem?
Guy a local Oreillys auto parts suggested it maybe a blown fuse, yet passenger side works fine. Are there two fuses and if so where may that be found ?

I appreciate anyone that’s knowledgeable chiming in. Thank you

Good morning Guy.

I appreciate you chiming in Metalworker0. I will look at that and see if Its a probable.

I do have an appointment today with a young wiper snapper David (20) who is electronically wise beyond his years, Inexpensive to, just a long drive (40 min. In not such a nice hood) to check it out.
Last time I used him it was a $900 + dealer quoted back up camera repair to David's $70 repair + $60 Amazon harness. Back up camera worked great for years until that Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 pick up was sold. He's that good.

On a second note, no idea why camera pics I have posted come out side ways on this site. Any tips on that too ?

Thank you and good day all.

looks like you are in a different part of the world by your dollar quotes . if in US .. non of those manuals will do .. if in Australia .. then .. just switch left to right

.. i don't know what a transit 1500 is

if that's engine size

its a 1500 cc connect and you are in the wrong forum

as i don't know the country or the exact transit ..

i suggest you search the owners manual with the knowledge you have .. country .. engine size from google download .. and go to the fuses section, or give me more detail and ill try and look it up

my info above is: UK spec, right hand drive, fmk8 / 9 transit with ecoblue 2.0 litre, 4 cylinder diesel engine.

Gotcha. I understand the dilemma. I didn’t catch your name MetalMan, you are ?
Never been, I hear it’s beautiful country with gorgeous beaches yes? What’s it like living down under

Thank you for posting. That much I did try, switched right side to left with zero, nothing.
May be a wiring issue no idea but yes i’ll check fuse first before heading to David.

What’s premium fuel, gallon milk, dozen eggs cost there these days ?

its common for the wires to break in the plastic or rubber ducting that carries them from the door to the "A" piller. / post

You'll probably find that all the wires are black and hard to work out what is what.

To find the break in this section; may require you pull the loom out , disconnect from both ends.. nightmare.

if that is the case, THIS VIDEO MAY HELP

Good morning -

MetalWorker0 Man that video was helpful. as the tech there stated piss poor design, holy chit what a birds nest.
These vehicles aren't design to well are they. Guess you pay what you get for. No way in hell it be that poor a design on my Lexus LS500 sedan, or the RX350 for that matter.
Seems like they, the Japanese engineers figured out a long time ago best to be pricey and reliable than cheap and broken.

Not sure what to do at this point. The door ajar light is off for now. Noticed yesterday when leaving the gym, if you giggle that door wiring harness black rubber boot, it turns off so that video you posted the link to is once again right on the probably broken wire issue.

Back to Davis I go today as what did a terrific job yesterday in finding the broken wires to the door switch, replacing the blown mirror adjust switch, replacing the broken cig lighter to to USB charging cell type for only $50 labor. Needles to say I gave him an additional $20 gratuity. He's a very good young man with a tremendous future ahead of him.

PS Door wiring harness at Ford Dealer was $270 special order with no returns, not even a restocking fee charge. No returns period.

You got yourself a good man there .. many here struggle to find techs that can do the job.

AS regards tips

Talcum powder .. the old stuff .. before they banned it ... NOT the new fangled corn starch crap .. the stuff that comes from crushed rock is what you want.

Sprinkle between the wires as matter of maintenance .. talcum powder will act as tiny bearings, prevent rubbing etc , just like it does with a rubber inner tube on a bicycle ... and just like its supposed to do with a baby and prevent nappy rash.

So if you see it still on the shelf somewhere .. buy it .. as it will be soon gone forever !

Wires require careful inspection .. as before they snap the insulation is still in place .. and they start snapping within .. so you cant really see it going on .

I See ford charging rip off prices in the USA just like UK .

You cant buy "used" as it will have the same problem ..

Think the problem is due to them packing so many wires in a small area .. and too many functions in the door .. their solution , make the wires thinner, so they can pack more wires in. not good!
