Rust issues

Postby Happe » Thu Feb 26, 2026 10:33 am

Hiya,
I currently have my little MK8 at Rustec for a thorough rust treatment.
After a few winters on the salty roads of the continent a good clean and some drops of Ditrinol were needed.
Unfortunately after cleaning a few spots showed issues that will need to be addressed.
Most of the rust damage is on the Engine Mount Crossmember. Instead of getting that welded I would rather replace the member.
I checked quickly on Ebay and the only one I could find outright is in Lithuania, breakers on Ebay with MK8s are breaking 2.0L ones. I need the member for a 2016 2.2 RWD.
Does anyone know if the cross member of a leter 2.0L would fit?
They do look fairly similar. Or does someone have one for a 2.2L sitting in the garage?

You have a few choices

The fact that the ecoblue one is listed separately means it's possibly different

see here ... press on the number at the side of the picture .. than it scrolls down to the part numbers

The catcar site has been not working well, for last few months

Your link does not work for me either at this end

Go in from the beginning .. and go in via the sub-pages, if my link does not get you there.

You are now dependent on other people to answer your last question.

it may be beneficial to put your VIN code in - note the site shows "NOT SECURE" on my task bar

even when i try to press on my own links to this cat cat site, i get .403 Forbidden

Interesting that it has this cross member in the chassis section which i originally pointed to: Transit TTG 2014- 2 Chassis 20401 Chassis.Front X Member / Knuckle & Hub

and you take me to the body and paint section .. i and s also there
so now you have even more choices . :?

in your body and paint section you have only two choices before before 18/12 2016 or after

in my chassis section you've 7 choices between FWD, RWD, 4WD, Ecocoblue or Duratorq and dates

Anyway, i thought the body being 0.7mm would corrode long before that thing, as Crossmember made out of 3-4mm steel.
