MK8 Transit part identification in engine bay

Postby JustAdamWillDo » Fri Apr 10, 2026 7:46 pm

I have a check engine light on with a MAF sensor fault code. After further investigation the current sensor is clean and so is the air filter.
The engine bay has started filling with exhaust fumes so I'm suspecting a leak somewhere giving the MAF sensor a wrong reading and generating the code. I can't see any obvious leakage but the pipe in the photo is looking a bit suspect and wondered if that's the source of my problems.
From the photos does that seem a likely place for exhaust fumes leakage, and if so, what's the name of this part please?
Thanks!

Well i cant find it on the parts diagrams at catcar.info

But did do a search on ebay with the words
transit mk8 engine ducting

Which lead me to another search that was: USE BELOW WORDS IN EBAY

transit mk8 air box breather tube

The results look sort of like it ( cant give you link to the ebay search as the links don't work here)

NOTE 2.2 results - no ecoblue

Thanks for looking, Mark!
Mine is a 2.0 ecoblue 2016.

I'll keep searching too but hopefully there'll be more replies with some more insight.

Thanks Mark, they do look promising, especially one of them.

It occurs.to.me that this is air going through those pipes, right? It's attached to the air filter pipe so my engine bay filling with fumes can't be from that suspect foil-wrapped pipe even if that is broken.

I need to find a source of a leak elsewhere?

It's happening from cold and idle on the drive so can't be coming from anything hot, it has to be exhaust.

What MAF related code are you getting, there are a number of codes that can be generated and logged for various reasons which may not be anything directly related to the MAF itself but other data that the system determines as an issue as it's the values that are out of spec compared to other factors it monitors.

The pipe your indicating is the crank case breather pipe which I doubt will cause MAF issues itself.
Pipe shown in catcar in the intake system pipework section.

What code are you getting and the description that goes with it?

Check your boost pipes from turbo to intercooler and intercooler to inlet manifold.

Could be an oil leak onto the exhaust - Don't rule that out.

As for exhaust fumes (also forgot to address that).

Has it been mapped?
If your DPF is blocked it could be causing high exhaust pressure forcing fumes past any number of gaskets from turbo to manifold.
If exhaust isn't flowing, turbo won't be spinning fast enough and therefore giving low boost.
