im still the same owner, she is now on 375,000, the engine is still driving spot on and not showing signs of ageing but thinking of changing the oil myself as ford are getting on for £400 per service nowmetalworker0 wrote:367,500 miles in 2025 says to me the last owner had it right .. ask him because he did something very right.
or if the engine is worn and getting a bit tired, using oil etc then .. you may need alternative advice

ive never had to top my engine oil once in all those miles, it doesn't leak and doesn't burn anymetalworker0 wrote:its 6.2 litres .. so youll need 2 cans, magnetec comes in 4 litres or 5 litres .. and starts at about £37 a can... rest of the can used for topping up .
5w30 magnetec also comes in a range of varieties, so you'll be researching that also.
me - i use Mobil Super 3000 X1 FORMULA FE 5W-30, because i got a good deal on the price. .. no other reason .
note some oils are specific to engines equipped with catalysts and DPF's .. low ash oils etc .. my old connect did not need such

15,000 oil and oil filter and fuel filter, i don't change air filters as i use K&N washable ones i have 2 in rotation so just wash them and re-oil them every 15,000 milesmetalworker0 wrote:well keep it towards your next oil change, then you'll only have to buy one can.
what frequency (miles) did you change the oil

no they just do the basic oil and filter change, its never had an engine flush, they do it while i wait, i turn up on a saturday morning ,go and have a breakfast at the cafe round the corner and its done when i come back, i cant fault their service its just the price is getting to high for a van this old,on the van itself it had a turbo when i first brought it at 7000 miles from ford, it was their demonstrator but apart from that everything else is original parts, chain, injectors, clutch gearbox all original, the oil is always black but as i said it never uses any or loses any, i had to have my sump changed around 50,000 miles ago because it rusted because no oil had leaked on to itmetalworker0 wrote:that's a lot of mileage on long oil changes, most people who have achieved your results have been doing changes at 10,000 or below , I read up on these things and i watch a lot of videos .. some are doing it at 6000 religiously.
there is a guy here, Australian i think , changes the oil every 5000 .. flushes out the oil galleries with syringe, tells us that his is oil never even changes to brown colour.. he was over 400,000 last time he posted i had to convert KM to miles... he's the best guy to chirp up on how to archive longevity, sorry cant find his posts
reading the mk6 / 7 forum 2.2s are on the second camchain or have been rebuilt at that mileage with regular maintenance of 15,000 done i suppose.
your garage - perhaps they were going the extra mile and doing more in the service than just an oil change, for the £400 .. flushing etc ..

i 100% agree the van usage has a big say in oil quality, although its in semi retirement now it always been a motorway van and dpf regens every 100 miles and if i get home and its still regening i let it finish before turning it off, with the unburnt fuel returning to the oil from the dpf it doesnt take long to contaminate itmetalworker0 wrote:Also not to be dismissed , its all about how many cold starts you've had vs mileage
You're doing something like 25,000 a year, twice the average mileage .. so maybe half the average cold starts per mileage.
and for all i know lots of long runs, you're not complaining about DPF trouble ..short runs is what buggers them up
