Fitting reverse camera to 2020 sync 2.5

Postby Slushydragon » Sat May 08, 2021 8:19 am

Does anyone have any info on how to retro fit reversing camera to sync 2.5?
I see there are some different kits available at different prices, the cheapest seems to be with free fitting but way out of my area.
Has anyone done this? What kit did you use.

I had this retrofit by a company near Cardiff as I would have had to wait a lot longer for a van with it factory fitted, I paid uric £525

Was that a genuine camera for that cost?

Thanks for the reply,Ford really skimped out on such a little option,
I see theres a company in Birmingham doing them for £250 fitted, but they are miles away from me,i would like to find a decent DIY kit.
I dont mind soldering few wires if needed

Yes but it’s probably down to the original buyer not putting on the options list as well when buying new if it’s not a standard fitment.

Its a shame it doesn't come standard once you are sold the sync 3 which is really a sync 2.5 they forget to tell you about.
My van was 700 cheaper and few weeks quicker without the sat nav and camera.
From what i can tell the sync 2.5 does not have the glovebox module and will probably need connecting behind the screen.
The DIY Kit on ebay is plugged behind screen and looks to have a module attached, they say this requires no coding to work with sync 2.5 and is plug and play at £307.
I also heard of other boxes that work with both sync 2.5 and 3.0.

So what is Sync 2.5 then? Is that the software version or a different unit?

I thought all they did was Sync 3

Excuse the copy and paste.

This is our Reversing Camera kit for the Ford Transit Custom from mid 2019 onwards. Ford now have Sync 3 / 3.2 and 2.5 ( Please see our Photos ) so you do not buy in error. If your vehicle is a late 2018 or early 2019 then you will have Sync3 with either 4 or 5 icons along the base of the screen but on DAB the radio station name is only printed. Sync 2.5 has 4 icons along the base of the screen and shows the radio station logo on DAB. This kit is only for the Sync 2.5. Please see our other listing for the Sync3 kit. This plug and play kit connects to the audio unit located behind screen and another single plug at the rear of the screen. If your Transit Custom has Rear Parking Sensors

Its the exact same unit, the 3 ways to tell are..
No glovebox module on 2.5
4 icons on 2.5 when on DAB with no phone plugged in
On About screen it just says Sync not sync 3.

Oh I see! Didn’t even realise there were different versions!

On my about page it says Sync 3 software version 3.0

Don’t have anything in my glove box though

That means you would require a slightly different wiring harness,
You should have a module behind the glovebox.
What year is your van Sparkie?

I think the later vans have the sync 2.5.
Theres 3 camera options
High level brake light, in aftermarket numberplate light or drilled into trim next to number plate as fitted standard.
I done a seach and seems theres some guys on forscan forum that have got this sorted, tho not much info on open forum, i have registered and sent some PM's but they are stuck in my outbox,i can't figure why

Not sure to be honest, but they do a lot for my local Ford dealership, the camera picture in all fairness is great , a mate of mine had one retro fitted by a company for £320 and he said that his picture quality isn't
As good as mine.

Here's a little update to keep the thread alive..
Im starting to feel im the only person with sync 2.5 .

I traced down the harness to integrate a RCA input to so sync, you an feed by splicing but the harness is only 10 quid.

Purchased best NTSC camera i could find, same dimensions and fitment as OEM,has adustable settings and angles for various fitments for 46 quid

Purchased ELM 237 for coding 17 quid.

Will let you know if it works in a few days,if anyone has already done this please let me know if im missing anything.

Roll on weekend
