1000W inverter wiring questions

Postby sparkie1984 » Fri Mar 03, 2023 9:54 am

Hi all!

So I’m looking to add a 1000W inverter to my van, it currently has the Ford 150W inverter which won’t even run my drill battery charger.

I have a 2020 custom and I notice it has the customer connection point which Ford say to use to maintain warranty. Any recommendations on where to get a ground? And any inverter recommendations brand wise?

If anyone has an install guide that would be great

I got Seeley on for mine and have wired it straight to the battery with a heavy duty master switch inline as I wasn’t sure the customer connection unit strong enough to power it.

Thanks mate, from reading around the connection point has a 60A fuse so technically the inverter will pull more at full load. However I won’t be using it for a load more than 400w so it should fit within that available power. Although I may label the socket just to remind myself

I had tried to ask ford what ground they would suggest and so far they emailed to say it must not be connected to the battery, dont fully understand why. Then asked where they suggest and no reply. I had thought about the load lashing point bolt hole which is behind the drivers seat where my inverter is. The newer ccp connections seem to be a constant 60a (small bolt) and a 175a ignition on/timed (large bolt).

Oh that’s interesting, I used the battery negative. Couldn’t see anywhere else with a half decent connection point really. I used the 60A CCP as I don’t have the larger one installed.

I was surprised that considering they do the CCP for people they don’t go to the effort of providing a grounding point too!

They probably expect you to use the seatbox mounting bolt .

Mine has the positive on the customer connection point, and the negative straight onto the negative terminal of the battery
