Hi mate.
Did your van have an apim originally or no? I want to go thus route but my can is the base 4" with no apim at all.

If I just buy the ahu, screen and accompanying wires like you have, would I not also need an apim as well.

Thanks

Hi, sorry to jump on this. I'm looking to do this to my ex AA van too!! Am i right in thinking I don't need an APIM. My van currently doesn't have one.

Great write up.

Thanks

Hi mate.
I had this same q myself. I've done the job now before they approved my post here but to answer your question your van doesn't need an apim to do this.

You may be better off buying fiesta stereo unit as opposed to a transit one as its far cheaper. I did my whole conversion for £175 whereas a transit stereo alone would cost me £200

Thanks for the reply. Much appreciated.

Don’t suppose you know the part numbers you used from a fiesta?

Thanks :)

I can confirm that no separate APIM unit is needed.
As for part numbers, as I stated in my original post...

Head unit - LK2T-18D804-HH
Screen - L1BT-18B955-FB
Fiesta Loom - H1BT-14B079-SC
USB Media Hub - HS7T-14F014-AC

From what I can tell, only the 6 digits in the middle of the part numbers are important - the other 2 blocks vary from model to model.

Good luck!

L1TT 18D804 HL for the main unit
the usb hub was a fiesta one also.

I didnt buy the loom mafty mentioned as i coudlnt find any. Instead i bought the flat power plug for £4 from aliexpress and also bought 2 1.5m USB A to mini B cables as they are the same as the ford ones, just without the locking connector. Just waiting on a day off to install the usb hub and wiring.

A Great thanks to Mafty,

Just ordered the HU and screen, which were a HUGE saving compared to transit parts...

Just one thing to confirm are the rest wires and harness were from the original 4in unit and screen?

You really have all the credits! Many thanks again!!

Like the OP I have also just bought an ex AA van (19 plate) and wanted to fit the touchscreen radio and glad I found this thread.

Got the display and AHU from the same breakers. Got the loom and USB hub from eBay. Seperating the cables out of the loom presented some of the stickiest goop I have ever come across.

For the USB hub the yellow/blue wire is +12V if your cigarette socket wiring is a different colour.

All working though and Apple Carplay is available and probably the nicest and cost effective way to do it.

Glad to see that you got it working, and really glad all my hours of research and testing have paid off for everyone!
