Cranshaft Idler gear damaged.. but how?

I am in the middel of a wetbelt replacement and noticed the idler gear has some damage the the shroud but I have no idea how this happened. The wetbelt has been chnaged before so maybe the last fella did the damage during the process but I've seen this same damage now on a couple of others online and it makes me think surely they are not just all getting beat up during the wetbelt change. Its like you'ed have to go out of your way to damage it.

That being said I don't think i'll be replacing mine as it seems to me that this damage is kind of superficial but would like other peoples opinions. it is a bit bent but in now way would come into contact with the belt. Also, its not cheap.
