Electric Window One Touch Up/Down Function

Postby DeuceTudor » Wed Jun 16, 2021 11:29 am

2017 Transit Custom,
Drivers side window has one touch function for up / down, but it doesn't work for the passenger window, either from the drivers side switch or the passenger door switch. Ford ETIS shows the van has "Power Front Windows One Touch Up/Down" should this work on both sides or is it drivers window only ? Went to my local Ford Dealer and they didn't know !!

Mine is a 2018 model (facelift) and it's the same. Only the driver side has one touch up/down.

My advice: change dealer if they can't answer the simplest of questions.

Thanks for the feedback, does any body know if it could be coded for one touch on the passenger side? It was one of a handful of options on my jeep that didn't stop working

One touch needs an extra relay in the door which holds the power on, so it's not just down to programming.

My Focus has one touch on both windows, so it isn't hard for it to be factory fitted, just Ford being cheap

Makes me laugh how Citroen vans have this on both windows yet Ford are so cheap!!

My 2016 connect only had one touch to roll the window down!! So the transit is at least a small improvement

I thought they didn't put it on the passenger side for safety reasons. My dog likes to stick his head out of that window and he's always standing on the switch.

That makes sense but why can’t the drivers side have the feature for both windows

For safety reasons, windows whith "one touch up" funktion, must have "anti pinch" technology. This consists of a current monitoring device which measures the current to to windowmotor. If the measured current goes over an destinct threshold, the window will stop and automaticaly open again.
Clearly this makes the system somewhat more expensive and that's why it isn' t there on both windows.

Ive got a Mk8 Transit and the window switch started to play up so i bought a new one from ebay. However when I fitted the new one it became clear that the one that was delivered was for a left hand drive model as the button on the left that would normally operate the passenger window was a “one touch” and I watched in wonder as for the first time I saw a one touch passenger window on a transit van. Unfortunately the right hand side window was now a poverty spec and I’d lost the one touch!!
Also left became right and so on as the LHD switch I had was technically in the wrong side.

Obviously I immediately took apart my old window switch to see if I could cannibalise it to make both my windows one touch.
Unfortunately, it was the Driver’s window switched that failed in my original switch and no amount of switch cleaner was going to make it work again. The interesting thing was the switches are very different. The passenger side one is a rocker. The other one is on some kind of sensor type. odd looking thing anyway I hope this helps somebody.

I accidentally bought a left-hand drive switch for my right hand drive transit.
Interestingly, this switch for a left hand drive vehicle made my passenger window a one Touch operation and the drivers Window a poverty spec.
So it appears there is no relay in the door no special wiring it’s all down to the switch itself with that in mind. I opened up my old switch to see what it was like inside there are two very different switches inside the body of the main switch depending on which country of origin it is one Touch works by having a slightly different switch when you open it up you can see that the poverty spec side in either switch left-hand drive right hand drive is a traditional toggle switch working on micro switches. Where is the one Touch switch is some kind of switch I’ve not seen before really delicate working lot on micro switches, but on centre as I think I did wonder could I cannibalise the pair of them to make one switch that will do one Touch on both windows? I’ll update this site if I managed to crack it I hope this helps somebody.
