wheelnut covers

Hi, I have just swapped to new winter wheels on my Custom with steel rims.
Summer rims are alloys..
They used the wheelnuts from the alloys but they look really weird.
Found some simple nuts from an Opel at the scrappies which seem to fit but leaves a long piece of the stud uncovered.(threaded part)
Are there meant to be dust covers on the end of the studs?
Any advice much appreciated.

all ford wheel nuts and studs for many tears have been steel with a permanent stainless steel covers on them.
After a few years , the steel rusts underneath the stainless cover, swelling it, making the tools / sockets not fit.
This has been going on for years with all fords

I don't know what the original steel wheel nuts looked like, but they were meant for a shorter stud .. and may not have had a built in spinning washer.

On my connect the original steel wheel wheel nuts do not fit alloys, as with alloys on this, {van designed for steel wheels only) the studs are too short and only engage with three threads ..
it will be the other way around, if yours was designed and built with alloy wheels .. the studs may then be too long.

So basically you may be altering or doing something that ford have not made possible. i don't know its up to owners here who have done such a thing to their customs to chirp up

basically you may need "open"wheel nuts with the threaded hole going all the way through them ..

Don't buy these in the link .. as just an example i found.

Note: many Chinese wheel nuts are just polished nickel plated ones and rust very quickly, (a few weeks) try and look for stainless ones.

Thanks Mark, yes maybe this was built for alloys...
It came from Germany originally with nice alloy 16" wheels on it but we need two sets of wheels up here.
The winter set are 15" steel. (bit cheaper tyres...)
The through nuts I found off the Opel fit, but yeah it leaves a lot of thread exposed.
I'll have a look in at the Ford dealers when I get to town next. Maybe they can show me an example?
Trying to find something online is just too confusing!
