and another thing .. if the glow plugs have gone to ground without blowing fuse .. then there are more amps being consumed. (clip on ammeter, on the battery cable)

sometimes a clue - instrument lamps go out whilst cranking.

It might be an idea to unplug the egr valve just in case its become problematic and is dragging the signal to earth too.

Irregardless, id remove the egr to inspect it mechanically in case its broken open. Plus it might explain the coolant loss if its leaking coolant through the egr cooler etc

metalworker0 wrote:Earths - its in the BEMM manual .. you can find it and download for free on the ford uk site, google: bemm manual ford transit custom and it should put you on the correct ford page.

What also you've got to take note of: because the starter is eating electricity current.. readings from other stuff whilst it is cranking is going on, may be false.

and in some cases .. it's the starter consuming so much power that stops it starting. - this would be a faulty starter

You need to take a clip on ammeter to the starter red cable and measure what its using ... should be below 90 amps

Actually may be wrong about the 90 amps .. was going off a "respected someones" answer here when i asked about it a while back .. I think they gave me the battery capacity and not the cranking amps as a reply.

so its a lot more, probably plus 200 amps or more

You was right after all mate, I tried my best but couldn’t find nothing so got a expert to sort it, he had it running in a hour apparently there was a damaged wire causing it to short out and blow a fuse, even though I checked all the fuses shows how good I am haha. Van running now just got a burst brake pipe now haha joys of ford ey

Well you'll be better next time at it, can cost a lot to get the the right guy in the end to find out whats gone wrong .. you've now found that guy , and he will save you money in the future, the others are duffers.

Good news .. and now you have the go-to guy, so not all bad .

What a good outcome.
What wire was broken and which fuse had it blown?
