Glow plug control module Location

Postby Muddyfunster » Sun Oct 26, 2025 1:15 pm

Hi,

Could someone point me to the location of the glow plug control module on a 2021 2.0L Eco-blue Custom please.
I want to check the wiring in that area for any damage to rule it out on my intermittent starting issue. Glow plug indicator on dash doesn't always illuminate even on cold mornings.

Much appreciated.

hopefully here .. download the body and equipment mounting manual BEMM -- it does tell you about the fuse boxes, content and module locations,

ONCE on the site DROP DOWN BOX - order 25 links per page ... then there are two pages of links to download the correct manual

and it jumps from 2018 to 2021 for the custom manual .. its one of those.. note one of them marked 2020 PHEV --- is the EV "electric vehicle" obviously not yours

I didn't bother looking for the glow plug module in the end as my problem developed somewhat.
Thought it was a fueling issue so booked it in to Ford. No issues found, so they suspect compression issue... compression test confirms low compression on 2 cylinders head needs to come off now :(

Please keep us informed, I would love to know how a 4 year old ecoblue engine has low compression on 2 cylinders :?

Mileage is currently just over 80K. Needs a new cylinder head as not repairable apparently. Seems I caught mine before it developed cylinder bore wash.
I know of a Transit pick up ( 2L eco blue) with 22k on the clock that has had the same problem and needs complete new engine.. a 10k fix
A mechanic mate says he has seen a fair few now all with a similar problems, seems if you have trouble with cold starting and the exhaust smell is quite strong when your standing near the van with the engine running it could be the signs of a failing cylinder head.
Anyone know more about the causes of this issue?

there was a recall on some not sure of the dates .. apparently it uses the injectors for extra fueling when in dpf regeneration mode , and when it regenerates and fails many times you get engine oil rising with the extra diesel in it .. the recall was to reprogram - upgrade software to stop this

found this

ford bulletin

18B42 - TRANSIT- 2.0L ECOBLUE - OIL DILUTION

botom of this page is the letter sent out

Thanks Mark some interesting reading there.
Does look like it may have been engines earlier than mine, but its definitely worth me mentioning it to Ford and getting it checked for the software update.
Much appreciated for the heads up.

Initially, it seemed to be a more widespread or serious issue on the early Ecoblue 2016/17/18 models, but with each passing year, more cases are emerging even in models around 2020.
