2.2 hub nut torque setting.

Postby thedadio » Sun Oct 15, 2023 3:07 pm

Any idea why the hub nut torque is 500nm on the custom and the mk7 is only 420nm even through the bearings are practically the same? Can I get away 450nm on the custom as that Is as high as my wrench will go?

Cheers

just had a look at 500 newton torque wrenches and they are 3/4 drive ..now that's hefty

i would expect yours to be 1/2 drive and shortish

and 450 on its limits for not busting the wrench

me myself ..id probably trust to what i know ..and just stick a 4 foot scaffold pole on a 3/4 breaker bar on it ...and tighten with just my weight on the end of it .

If it helps....
500nm. There are 10n in 1 kg (9.81 actually) so 500nm equals 50 kgm. So that means a weight of 50kg applied to a 1m Long wrench, or. 100kg to a 0.5m wrench or any other combination.

I think a 500 nm torque wrench will be 3/4 drive and over 3 foot long.

start looking on ebay , youll find one at the right price eventually .. probably for under £40

car boots are good .

I bought this Nielsen one off eBay to do mine. It was £117.
