BCM Faults

Postby Pigsfoot » Mon Jun 15, 2026 6:05 pm

Hi,

I have a 2013 Custom, i recently had the engine out to replace the head and have since refitted. Nothing changed other than a new head. When we done this we obviously disconnected the battery.. however.. i didn't know at the time the van has two batteries connected in series. The second battery was not disconnected.

Anyway, moving on..... before the work the van worked great, no dashboard lights at all. Since replacing the engine the van all started and ran perfectly however i now have an airbag light on the dash... i have checked all cables under the driver seat and they are all fine just in case i caught one when disconnecting the battery, it also comes up with a parking assistance issue when you turn the van on and the emergency service function is no longer available.

I have an Autel scanner and have scanned the van, various issues, ABS, BCM, Parking etc. When looking deeper into the BCM issues there are around a dozen faults, brake switch, crash data, restraints, ABD to name but a few, also a few that say ground Earth fault. Its also worth mentioning the key fobs no longer lock / unlock the van but the Immobiliser is working fine as the van starts and runs.

I have tried clearing the crash data but the Autel comes up with a communication error.

Having googled the issues A LOT.. i am starting to think the issue is with the BCM itself and may need replacing.. however before i go down that rabbit hole i want to ask the community if they have any thoughts.

Anyone with the right experience in using a scanner ( i use mine to just clear faults, more than that i have no idea ) would be helpful, i'm based on the outskirts of Leicester, obviously happy to pay. Unfortunately i cant drive to you as the van is SORN and needs an MOT... hence the Airbag light being an issue.

google AI .. because ive no idea .. says all the faults are linked to crash event.

large jolt when installing engine - air impact tools near sensors ?

https://www.google.com/search?q=2013+tr ... hey+linked

and because everyone swears by forscan here , perhaps that would lead the way to clearing it.

Don't know if this is an extra special upgrade (Extended License) feature in forscan and you would have to buy the licence. £20
AI says you need the Extended License
ford owners club says it also

perhaps the forum will tell you

That's very helpful thank you. i have ordered an adaptor to use with Forscan and its worth giving its a try with the extended licence.

Makes sense re the jolting, especially as we didn't disconnect the second battery so i assume modules still had power, there was a lot of push and shoving to get the engine refitted :?

Will update you when i have the results.
