Door mirror detent.

Postby srj999 » Sat Jul 04, 2026 6:43 pm

Hello all,

My 2018MY Custom has been off the road for 6 months. As it was parked on a narrow drive, I had folded the (non-powered) door mirrors against the body. Now, however, the central detent no longer works.

I am assuming the mirrors are secured with something like a spring-loaded ball catch. When the mirrors are in the fully folded position, the detent registers and holds the mirror in place. My next assumption is that having the mirrors folded for six months has deressed the centre, "home" detent ball, so it no longer pops up to hld the mirror in place.

While not a showstopper, it does mean that I have to rely on the fit of the assembly to stop the mirror moivng too much but both N/S and O/S mirrors now pivot slightly on the horizontal axis, meaning I have to stop every so often to put them back in the correct position.

Unlike before ,there is no resistance to turning until the mirror is fully folded. I'm hoping not to dismantle the mirrors but should I perhaps use something like a penetrating oil to free up the central retention mechanism?
