Hi,

I have a 2017 Transit Custom 2.0 170ps which started to display the “Service Now” warning on the dash when driving up hill when the revs drop and the van is struggling a little.

I checked Forscan and it had injector faults across all the injectors but it was intermittent.

I decided to change all injectors and having done so coded them correctly.

On its first test drive it brought up exactly the same “Service Now” warning.

Having checked with Forscan again I found errors on both injector 1 and 4. I’ve attached the screenshots.

Anyone any ideas? I’m at a loss what this could now be…

Check your EGT (exhaust gas temperature) sensors in forscan .. reading up on this fault suggests EGT can have some bearing on this .. minus 40 .. means the sensor has failed.

did a bit of reading and found the same thing.
I have the following readings from Forscan. This was done after a drive when the engine was warm.
Egt11 never moves from 0
Egt12 never goes below 100 even when stone cold but it does rise as can be seen in the attachment.
Egt13 never moves from 780.

I’m guessing egt13 doesn’t really exist and it’s a default/redundant value?

Is it normal for egt12 to old go above 100?
Egt11 would appear to have an issue but when I removed it and put a hairdryer on the sensor then used a multimeter to see if it reacted it did go down in resistance which doing research would be correct.

If you are looking at live data in a tool like FORScan before starting your Ford diesel, seeing an EGT12 (Exhaust Gas Temperature) reading of 100°C is normal. It is a built-in default temperature. The sensor does not measure very cold weather. It waits at 100°C until the exhaust warms up.
Why Does It Do This?
Think of it like an oven's pre-heat light. The sensor does not show "freezing" temperatures. It starts at a warm "blank" number (100°C) as a safety baseline. Once the engine starts and the exhaust gets hotter, the number will go up.

A wrong Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT) reading does not directly damage your fuel injectors. However, an incorrect reading can cause your engine's computer (ECU) to adjust fuel and air incorrectly. This can cause the injectors to spray improperly, leading to poor engine performance.
Why the Reading Matters
The EGT sensor checks how hot your engine's exhaust is. The Engine Control Unit (ECU) uses this number to keep the engine safe.
If it reads too high: The ECU might pump extra fuel into the cylinders to cool the engine down. Over time, this over-fueling can wash away cylinder oil and damage your injectors by clogging them with bad soot or debris.

If it reads too low: The ECU might lean out the fuel mixture. Running too lean creates dangerously high internal heat, which can permanently melt or crack pistons and exhaust valves.

and at 780c how metal glows
Dark Red (650 °C): Starts to glow.Medium Red (760 °C to 780 °C): so your exhaust would be red if sensor was correct. .

so i think, replace egt13

start unplugging and find out what ends up as minus40 .. if unplugging one goes from 780 to minus 40 ,.. you found it
