2026 Transit Custom – GPS position freezes and Traffic Sign

Hi,

I am trying to find out whether anyone has experienced this issue on a 2024/2025 Transit Custom with SYNC 4.

My Transit Custom AWD worked normally for several months. Recently, apparently from one day to the next, the Traffic Sign Recognition started behaving incorrectly.

The most interesting part is that the problem appears to correlate with the vehicle's GPS position.

Symptoms

FordPass periodically shows the vehicle at a location where it was approximately 30–60 minutes earlier, even though the vehicle has since travelled elsewhere or has been parked for hours.

At the same time, the speed limit displayed on the instrument cluster appears to correspond to the previous location.

One example:

I joined the D1 motorway near Ostrovačice. The vehicle did not display 130 km/h immediately. It continued displaying an incorrect limit and only showed a stable 130 km/h around Velký Beranov, much later on the journey.

In Prague I have also seen the vehicle display 130 km/h despite not being on a motorway.

Other examples include random 20/30/50 km/h limits.

However, when the camera detects an actual round speed-limit sign, the displayed limit changes immediately to the new value.

The system also recognises temporary speed-limit signs correctly.

After passing an end-of-restriction sign, however, the system can sometimes return to the previous incorrect limit.

TCU / SYNC observations

The integrated modem ESN shown in the SYNC system information screen is intermittent:

sometimes the modem ESN is displayed,
sometimes the field is completely empty.

FordPass otherwise appears to work normally.

The vehicle has been checked remotely by the dealer. At the moment there are:

no active DTCs,
no historical DTCs,
no available software update.

The dealer has suggested leaving the vehicle for several days/weeks so they can try to reproduce the problem.

My question

Could this be related to the TCU/GPS position, rather than the front camera itself?

Has anyone experienced:

GPS position freezing,
FordPass showing an old vehicle position,
intermittent TCU/modem identification,
Traffic Sign Recognition following an old location,
or incorrect speed limits on a 2024-2026 Transit Custom?

Any information about Ford service procedures, TSBs/OASIS messages, software updates or known TCU/GPS issues would be very helpful.

Start with the easy things you can do yourself quickly….
Do a master reset through the settings menu in the sync screen.
If no better,
Disconnect battery negative lead underbonnet (10mm nut)
Leave it off say 5/10 mins then refit it,see if any of those have any effect…
