2018 Transit custom -side loading door only opens once from

hi, I’ve replaced my side loading door locking mechanism with an original Ford part after being broken into. I’m having an issue with the side loading door. I can open the door from the inside of the van every time, but from the outside I can only open it once as when I drive off with the van and then park it seems to lock itself from the outside. I’ve removed the handle so many times confirming that the mechanism works but this appears to feel like it’s an electrical problem as all the moving parts move I have tried removing the negative from the battery for 15 minutes to see if that resets the electrics. Has anybody out there experienced this problem as I am struggling to find a resolution.
