Evening all,
After a fun filled Saturday last week which saw me having a a nine hour wait and two hour journey on the back of a recovery wagon after my crankshaft pulley decided to throw it's toys out the pram I thought it best if I invest it a new pulley that is hopefully glued together a bit better than the last one.
I got the old pulley off and the new one on without too much drama, but I'm struggling a bit with the route of the new serpentine belt. I took photos before I removed the old one, although since the pulley had come apart I'm not totally sure it can be trusted as the belt could well have popped off the original route. I looked in the Ford manual and it shows the belt going round a pulley between the crankshaft and alternator, but when I try this it's just slightly too tight to fit with the tensioner all the way down, I might just be able to get it to fit if I use the belt fitting tool, but haven't tried yet.
If I bypass the pulley between the crankshaft and the alternator (as shown in the Haynes manual) and the picture of my engine below then the belt fits fine and still has plenty of tension on it, and this was actually the way I think it may have been fitted before, although the pulley does look like it has been used as it's dirty and scuffed.
I also found a picture on the interweb showing it going round the extra pulley (the other picture below).
Not quite sure what to do. I could bypass the extra pulley, it fits fine but is is going to be too loose once the belt has warmed up and for a new miles under it. Then I could try and force it round the extra pulley but is that going to put too much strain on the belt and pulleys.
Any suggestions folks?
Cheers, Mark
