I doubt that you will make the difference between new and old without dampening the doors and amp...

Very helpfull posts here and have just installed a nice set of focals today's myself - however they came with crossovers and I would like to ask if there is a good place for them . Saw that the door wires are on a plug and so running a cable to the door and putting them in there isn't an option
Does the tweeter run straight from the head unit as such the door speaker or are they in series ?

at the moment I'm using them without but would be nice to install them without having to rewire everything

I'm not an expert by any means but I believe coaxial speakers are designed for when you don't have separate tweeters (they have them built in). As such, you'd get two lots of highs, and I'm pretty sure this isn't ideal.

I recently added sound deadening to the inside of my doors and the backs of the door casings and the improvement is significant. Interestingly, the rear speakers in the Tourneo seem to perform much better than the fronts. I'm not sure if they're the same speakers or whether the mounting of them is better acoustically.

I will eventually upgrade, but am not sure yet what the best options are, be it speakers, amp and sub, head unit or all of the above.

Hi,

I can suggest to don't fix the crossovers ore speakers cables to the existing OEM wiring of the van, if you read my last posts I fix a noise problem by moving one crossover .

bye

Make sure you get the stuff that doesn't go brittle, stink and/or fall off in the summer sun.

Can you explain more please ?

The speaker cable from the cab into the door is through a connection plug , there is no other way to run cables into the door without alot of work

Did you run separate cables to all speakers ?

I do get engine noise but it is since I added a tuning box , it was there before I put the new speakers in and has now become louder with the new speakers but this is not a problem for me

Just found a copy of the wiring colour code , it mentions only that there are 2 front speaker and 2 rear speaker wires. I really would like to find the cable points were the tweeters and doors speakers join

Probably close to the A pillar, it doesn't matter though as the signal is exactly the same. It might be a good place to mount the x-over though.

Upgrading the door speakers

Postby seikokid » Fri Feb 05, 2016 11:34 pm

I have looked into this - being an electrician myself I can see how it's not an easy job to fit these crossovers , in that this is a 1 year old vehicle and to start cutting up the loom is not what I really wish to do and there's quite a tight bunch under that dash . I'm not that fussed about the "perfect sound " because already fitting these speakers is far better than what I had and that was ok for me , just my hands free had started to wear out the tweeters . So I had a chat with my electronics repair guy and also some helpfull guys down at one of londons big car audio centres , if I fit a 4.7uf or similar Cap Across the new tweeters I will be back to my original set up just with new speakers . Until I can find a loom splitting kit or something neat and professional I'll use this method for now
