Installed HID kit DO NOT USE 55w KITS

Well an eventful day, started later this morning as had no headlights!!

Got a last minute booking at the Ford Dealer and was there for 2.5 hours!

Initially they thought the BCM was beyond repair but some perseverance and they managed to flash new software onto the BCM.

All at a cost of £192.40

So the cheap HID Kit isn't so cheap after all!!

I'm waiting to hear what they have to say for themselves..

You surely read the thread?
It's a common problem when fitting hids and you need a dealer to sort things out.

Didn't see the bit about 'if you fit the hids4u kit you'll need a trip to your dealer to take £192 off you for resetting the ECU and the kit to be utter useless?

But.. why 7/8 months later are they still selling them?

I noted in my order that they were for a 2015 Custom.

The girl emailed back and stated it's only just been brought to their attention?..

From what I've seen and heard on this forum, it seems that Ford have changed the spec of the BCM. Early vans didn't have a problem with the 35w HIDs, to be fair to HIDS4U they didn't advertise the kits as being suitable for thr Custom when I bought mine, they added that after they had positive feedback from Custom owners.

There is a way around it but it'll involve making a bespoke loom to power them, probably something that you don't want to do.

did you fit the resistors ?

There weren't any resistors to fit fella, they claimed the ballasts are can bus compatible - which they are definitely not.

i ended up getting the wiring loom , i remember now and that had the resistors with it . Told you it's a pain and better off with white normal bulbs

Yeah I think i'll order that bulbs Mike posted a link to, can't be assed with the hassle of HID's

The Ford Tech did say he flashed new software on to it, it maybe is just a no go.

I don't want to try another kit and to be left with another bill!

I have been thinking about ways round it, some kind of load built into the circuit?

What you thinking for the bespoke loom? Resistors?

It's a pre built loom supplied by HID4U, the resistors got really hot. 1 side worked but the other was dim. On my brand new van i couldn't handle having this loom dominating the engine bay, even that i'm an electrician i had cable tied it neatly and done a good job but after drilling holes in the rubber back covers of the lights and this loom and the ballasts and my new van ..... ugh... too
much....
I now have LED side lights and white halogen turn lights. I bought the osram fog halogens ( brilliant light beam - mentioned in one of mikes posted i think ). Osram led indicators front and back ( see mikes posts ) and full led rear lights , just been waiting to get some decent dipped / full beam white bulbs

i do get a brake light fault once when the engine starts because of the brake leds but it doesn't bother me as it's only once / sometimes confuse it with a low fuel noise

You got details of the led bulbs for the rear lights?

I think i'm going to try the Philips Racing Vision for the low beam.

i might be wrong with brands / phillips indicators - i can't remember until i find the packaging. I spoke with a nice guy at autobulbsdirect ( hid4u ) and we used the cree and their own brand

the top brake bulbs need to be short as well , i think used the same as the front side light but can't remember now - ask for James as i had full help from him. I have found 1 of my brake lights is dimmer than the other and will be getting that changed soon

HIDS4U are sending out new ballasts that they are going to try on 2 different customs over the weekend.

i've just ordered the Phillips racing vision lamps . i do have the phillips white vision in at mo but they are not that great - the fog and turn versions are though !
