Am I the only one thinking Ford R&D = customers? Sad to see. That having said, I clearly remember our 4 month old Mk2 having the RAC out for a burned out wiring loom connection, in 1986, so nothing new there. The RAC man said it was very common, and could go at any time. I would have gone back to Ford under warranty but couldn't be bothered. a £2 roadside fix was all it took and we were on our way again. Today, it looks like the price of the design faults has gone up with the price of the vans!!

Ford test drivers don't treat the vans like sh*t, so some problems only come to light when some hairy arsed builder gets his hands on a van.

Opening the door isn't a problem. Flinging it open on a windy day while the van is at an angle is a problem ;)

Are you seriously suggesting you can't open your door unless parked on a level surface with wind speed less than 20mph.

I wouldn't say this fault occurs due to mistreatment, just bad design.

You make it sound like they are doing it on purpose Mike.

Not on purpose, but some people treat their vans like shite, then moan like F**k about them. Ever noticed how it's the same old people who have 'bad luck'?

Agreed, but I think this fault is a bit different. I know someone personally who had this happen, it was just parked on a camber. He sold us his 8 year old jumbo and that was very well looked after.

As this was my thread i'll respond, this is my first and only brand new van, my company, my money, the vans is clean and tidy as was my old one and its used more or less as my car, i only drive the family car once maybe twice a month. The first thing I noticed when I got it was that the doors are heavy and wide and I would have to be careful with it so to say I just flung the door open is crape. Open your own door fully wide and watch the check strap bracket flexing on the bodyshell and tell me that looks a good design.

Agreed , and I'm inclined to side with you , I've had the wind grab it a few times and been lucky so now when it's breezy I hold the door rather securely and don't let it go

And actually, to sum up a few points made on this thread, if you actually CARE about your vehicle and treat it with respect and don't slam it about (as most people would that are business owner / drivers), anybody would hold the door and be careful with it in high winds... Is this not common sense / respect for your possessions?
