P0299 underboost fault code

Postby glenandemm » Tue Sep 18, 2018 4:05 pm

Cruising along today engine service now came on and van went into a limp mode, with my basic fault code reader it came up turbocharger underboost p0299 fault code, I’ve checked the wastegate actuator rod is moving freely and can’t see any obvious leaks.
I’ve since cleared the fault and driven it 5-6 miles with no issues since.
Anything to look for or to check?

I thought all transit customs had a vnt? And that means the actuator shouldn't move freely because it is a geared servo motor.

Your correct pal they are electronically controlled but the mechanism with the rod attached gets stiff and sticks, to check they’re free you just remove the circlip and slide the rod off the electronic actuator then you can see if the rod and mech are freely moving!

Yes :D

So, under boost will be either, the vnt actuator, split somewhere or map sensor fault or not reading correct.

Might expect other fault codes though for vnt actuator normally over boost.

Maybe live data will help.

Never came back pal strangely enough!
I never did anything other than undo the pin and make sure actuator rod was free moving
