heavy vibration in reverse

Postby aln101tf » Mon Oct 15, 2018 8:18 pm

Hello all,
2013 Tourneo 125ps
I'm getting heavy vibration in reverse only, perfectly smooth going forwards.
It's not sharp, like metal to metal. More heavy and dull. It begins before the vehicle is moving.
Amount varies with load. It doesn't like reversing up my fairly steep drive.
I can see what I would consider to be quite a lot of movement in the engine / gearbox under load, but I'm not sure what's normal.
The mount on top of the gearbox seems quite "soft", and there is a lot of movement in the rear end of the bottom "tie-bar" / "torque bar", whatever its called, under the engine.
Do these normally move a lot, or am I heading in the right direction?
Any other suggestions?
Alan

Hi,
Just a thought.. We used to get heavy vibration and a general resistance whilst reversing in our 140 Mk 7 and my current 155 Ltd Tourneo after staff grounding the front subframe on high centred forest tracks. Gravel and stones would fill the square box sections of the lower wishbones. Always ok going forwards though. Used to have to jack the front up and use a high pressure hose to flush all the debris out. Might be worth checking them just in case something has got in there somewhere.

Cheers, James.

Fitted a new gearbox bottom mounting. What a weird looking arrangement.
Juddering gone.
Now that its smooth, its obvious how much a struggle it has getting up my drive, which isn't really that steep. Doubt if it would manage a trailer
