Does the ECU have to come out to have speed limiter removed?

Postby ScranTheVan » Thu Oct 18, 2018 5:57 pm

Hi all
Newbie here. Just gotten an ex-AA yellow custom, 2014, and although I was told it wasn't speed limited, turns out it is. So, the dealer will pay to get it off, and I've just had a quote (Sheffield based) of £200 AND I'd have to battle my way through to the ECU and remove it. I'm sure VanTuner said somewhere it could be done via the plug connector. Also the dealer seems to think he can get it done locally to him (30 miles away) for £30. Eh? Something doesn't stack up here.
Can it be done via the plug? I'm loathe to rip it out.
Cheers!

When I had my speed limiter removed by ford it was just a plug in the diagnostic port mine was about £40 on the bill but I had taco readout put back on to the van dash as mine was a campervan conversion from a bus they were happy to take it off once the logbook said it was a campervan

It can be done without removing the ECU with Forscan (free software) and a modified ELM327 adapter which you can get on eBay/Amazon for £15-20

Have a look at the forscan forum. You're looking for Central Configuration.
