Holts Tyreweld 400ml Emergency Puncture Repair

Postby wild camper » Thu Nov 08, 2018 7:16 am

Last winter I had a puncture in a tyre off my VW Golf, I had a spare but it was dark and raining so for convenience I used an aerosol can of puncture repair, it worked OK and got me 11 miles to home.
But when I took it to a tyre shop the next morning they wouldn’t repair the puncture. I think it has something to do with the mess and extra effort required to remove the “gunge” and also they can no longer get good adhesion for the patch inside the tyre.
They don’t tell you this on the can!
Also because it was a Winter tyre they recommended that I have both the front tyres replaced, it turned out to be an extremely expensive “convenience “
I found out that only Holts Tyreweld claim that a puncture can be repaired if you use their product.
I checked with a branch of National Tyres and the Manager agreed that they would repair a puncture sealed by Holts Tyre weld. It says on the can that a400ml can will fix up to a 16inch tyre.
I don’t know what brand aerosol Ford supply, but it might be worth checking your kit if you rely on it i.e. you don’t have a spare wheel and tyre
I now carry both
I hope this helps someone

Continental tyre sealant from ford

Sounds like they tyre place you took it too where girls

Anyways up had one on my sooty van drove it back with the tyre off the rim
Filled it up with tyre weld

Thanks bigjohnthomas for your endorsement of Holts Tyreweld, at least I think it’s an endorsement?

It's the only way to deal with these so called tyre repair persons
No belm right
I took a split rim to one for a tyre change once
And this guy said sorry mate I can't do that without a cage it's too dangerous
But when I told him I would take it to a real manly tyre fitter with bollokks n stuff
It shamed him into doing it
And as far as I know he's still alive :)

Could you not of used one of the assorted plugs you carry under the seat and used the cage in the back for a bit of plug and play :?:

I bought a puncture repair kit off eBay, item https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/232795211634 for £2:50 delivered 2nd class post
It’s a reamer and a needle to thread sealing strips and adhesive into the hole
There’s no fancy bag or case for it but you can get a case for it for £1 at Poundland
I’ve now got
1 x spare steel wheel & tyre
1 x aerosol can of Holts Tyreweld
1 x 12v air compressor
1 x puncture repair kit
Am I paranoid about getting a puncture?
I’ve only had 3 punctures in the last 50 years but they were memorable
