Intermittent bad idle

Postby glenandemm » Thu Nov 15, 2018 10:07 pm

Seen a post on the Facebook pages the other day about this and mine does it too very intermittently, basically can be driving fine then all of a sudden starts running like its on 3 cylinders with engine revs erratic, 5-10 mins and its gone again :?
Seems to be very common judging by all the other guys on there who have it too but no ones exactly sure what it is!
The only thing I’m thinking of trying is cleaning egr as I hear it self cleaning when I switch off quite often so I’m wondering if it’s sticking maybe?
Anyone else had this issue, runs bob on apart from this every so often!

My '14 Tourneo does the same.
Have taken it back to Ford to be checked numberous times, and they cant find anything wrong.
And i have take in to various Ford dealers, in different cities.

I have had the software updated.
Plugged their laprtops in to be checked.
No faults.

I am seriously hoping someone here can answer this question.

Seems to pop up on the Facebook groups too every few days with people posting vids of the Rev gauge bouncing about!!
The engines seem to go in and out of it and carry on running fine when it stops, I wonder if its egr cleaning or something?

Can you please share a few links from FB where it has happened.
I would like to see if it is the same problem.

I've seen some but they rev over 1000 pm and down rather than drop down, not sure if it is hunting or missing really, seen some that randomly just cut out whole driving along

If it was me I'd try and get it on live data and see what happens when it occurs, personally an intermittent fault like this will be hard to diagnose but could be sensors, injectors, wiring or pcm. Ford won't bother I don't think :(

All you can do is live data, check fault codes, do updates, clear learns and so on.

Intermittent is a problem to because it makes diagnosis hard but also discounts things ie. A broken wire you'd expect it to break permanently after a while. And so on.

Need someone clever to have a look, might need things swapping over like the pcm which might have a fault inside.
You enter the realm of implausible :(
