Rear speakers - 2018 facelift

Postby DeRo » Tue Jan 08, 2019 4:03 pm

Hi

First, apologies for the new topic. I know there are a number of threads that refer to these but I can't see any that have the answer. And I've been looking for a while..!

Looking to add rear speakers. The wiring loom with the 4 pin/cable connector is present on both sides, in front of rear wheel arch. However, the cable colours do not correspond with any info/diagrams I've been able to get my hands on, including from Ford so far. I've got:
Right side - Brown, Black/White, Blue/Black, Green/Black
Left side - Black, Brown/Yellow, White/Green, Green/White

Does anyone know which are the speaker cables, positive and negative please....?

Thanks for any help...

Hi Marky M and thanks very much for taking the time to post these. I have seen them before somewhere and whilst the left side (third pic) is a match to my colours the right side unfortunately isn't...

However, if the left is correct then I could assume that the corresponding wires in the socket on the right side are the speaker positive and negatives. Which would be black/white and black/blue...

Anyway since my post yesterday, I managed to have an email exchange with a Ford Tech today. He initially advised the same colours as your pic 3 - but qualified this by saying that, "the right hand speaker should be brown/white and brown/blue however dependent on model this may change colour somewhere in the loom to black/white and black/blue" (black/white is +).

So hopefully I've got the answer....

Booked in for rears to be coded on the 23rd Jan, I'll update here with the outcome after that.

Do the connectors look like they will clip into these adaptors?
This is what I used to reference which cable was poss/neg when I replaced the front speakers.
Have not seen the rear connectors though.

mic71, thanks but pretty sure they wouldn't be a fit.

Rear connectors on mine are 4 pin male, those look to be 2 pin male..

Also if the info I have now is correct the rear speaker cables are the 2nd and 3rd in my connnector and are more central than those look to be.

But thanks anyway!

From info I've seen around, the colours may have changed at some point.

Have you checked to see what colour cables you have on each side in front of the rear wheel arch..? You could then post details here, might help with a response.

I don't think there is a stock situation for Custom rear speakers - they aren't fitted. So you'd need to look at a Tourneo if you want to see stock.

Assume the Custom wiring harness is same as Tourneo hence the speaker plugs in the Custom in front of rear wheel arch - if you have the plugs/wiring.... sure I've seen people on the internet saying they don't have them on both sides.

My speakers are fitted in the ply panel over the wheel arch (I've replaced the standard hardboard panel fitted in my van with ply). You'll see where they need to be positioned, it's goverened by the cut out in the bodywork behind the hardboard panel (or whatever you have there)

Well that's disappointing...

Van has been to an Indy who has access to Ford software. He has by his word already done rear speakers activations on a number of customs. His charge would have been a reasonable £60.

However he was unable to find a menu to configure mine and after a couple of hours gave up. He reckons it's not there for audio system fitted to the van. It looks like Ford is the only route - although he suspects they will have the same problem and will need to raise it as a software issue wherever in the Ford organisation such things get raised... sounds like a long, painful and expensive process to me...

If anyone in the Hampshire area needs speakers added to an earlier van Colin at Foxtec in Southampton was the man above. He very generously charged me £0 for his time today.

Good result.

In the meantime the local Ford tech I've been dealing with has raised my issue with Ford technical. He sent me a copy of their reply which basically says that rear speakers cannot be coded/added to the van. So at some point in time appears that this option has been removed from the s/w (mine is Sept 2018). Thanks Ford, appreciated....

I've been discussing options with a local audio installer. They're suggesting fitting an amp to drive the rear speakers. Might go for a front speaker upgrade and a sub at the same time.
