Central locking problem

Postby Barry1981 » Fri Jan 25, 2019 9:26 pm

Hi All I have a 2015 transit custom double cab crew van which has developed a issue with locking from the remote key . When you lock the doors they close and then open sounding the horn. When you drive it’s saying on display driver door open but it’s closed. Has anyone any idea what could be causing this issue??

The drivers door ajar switch is faulty but it probably means replacing the mechanism.

Drivers door mechanism pin 3 goes to ground when the door is closed, so if you add a wire to the wire coming from pin 3 and close the door, with ignition on and it says driver door open, if you then touch the wire to a chassis earth, an easy earth is the outer metal of the cigar socket, the message should go away, this will confirm that the latch is faulty.
If it doesn't go away then there must be a break in the wire or something.

Cause is likely the 'driver door open' sensor.
It happened to me a few times, and it turned out that a few wires connecting the door to the cab were broken.
Door sensor was intermittent, but what made me look there was that the loudspeaker and passenger window switch didn't work.

 that'll do it alright. Was that accident or faulty manufacturing?

I can't say for sure.
Recently I had an incident when strong wind pulled the door from my hand so hard that it displaced adjacent body panel by 3 inches. Door was stuck and I couldn't open or close it. Very bizarre situation, but I was able to push the panel by hand and line everything up.
I doubt that's when the wires broke, but it's possible.

I bought the van used, and only had it for a month.
Electrician said that he's seen this problem on other vehicles and thinks it's poor quality wires and weathering.

Its a common problem, I've had to cut and shut my door loom due to 3 broken cores. IMHO the loom tape restricts smooth movement in the folding area of the loom. I cut back the tape on both door looms to provide a greater radius of movement.
