Stop lights coming on when the doors open?

Postby Dan_R » Sat Feb 02, 2019 1:11 am

Hi,

It's my first post on here...

I'm converting a 2018 Transit Custom into a camper. I've got most of the work done now but it's a bit annoying that the lights all come on when I open a door. Side lights, rear lights and the display screen in the audio unit. I can't imaging being too popular in any camp sites if I have to get up in the middle of the night and all my lights come on!

Is there any way to stop this? I can't find anything in the book. Maybe I could take something out of the fuse box and fit a rocker switch below the steering wheel to disable it but the manual is a bit confusing.

Thanks

Eh? It’s what they do when you open a door. He wants to know how to stop it.

OP, it’s probably something that can be ‘fixed’ with ids/Forscan. But you’ll need someone who has one of those to have a dig around in the config.

So his problem is not a problem and is standard operation on the later vans my older van only puts on the dash and radio screen on when door opened

Correct, hence my 'fixed' and to be fair he didn't call it a "problem"

Fair enough mike that’s the trouble with modern technology it controls to much of what should be controlled by the driver

Yeah, Thanks. It's all working as it's designed to - just not how I want it to...

I'm not in the UK any more so I don't know where I'd go for technical help here but I might give the local dealer a call, see if they have any suggestions. There doesn't seem to be a fuse anywhere that I can get to and fit some kind of switch.

Thanks anyway
