How to identify fuse sizes in BCM Fusebox

Postby wild camper » Thu Mar 28, 2019 5:08 pm

I’m trying to take fuses feeds from the BCM Fusebox using Piggbacks
They’re for a Light bar control, dashcam/satnav and reversing camera monitor
I want them all to be ignition controlled
It’s the first time I’ve used “piggybacks” and it’s got me pulling my hair out (what’s left of it)
I bought standard piggybacks which were too big
I bought smaller piggybacks which turned out to be micro
I finally got mini piggybacks, but they’re no good either!
Why has Ford used so many varieties of fuse
F21/F22 5A is 3 prongs, a mini piggyback won’t fit
F35 5A is 2 prong but smaller than a mini, the mini piggyback won’t fit
Can anyone advise where I can buy the at least 2 types of piggybacks that would work in a 2017 Limited 2.0 130PS BCM Fusebox?
I’m now desperate to get these 3 jobs finished and the dashboard put back together

Why not just find an empty fuse location that just has the 1 pin and add a spade cable with online fuse to it?

OK Loot, thanks I’ll try that
I hope there’s no sparks
Now another order on Amazon/eBay for in line fuses
I could open my own shop for 12V terminals
I hope all this time and effort is worth it

Thanks for your suggestion Loot, but I tried a male spade terminal ( I think that’s what you meant) but in my BCM Fusebox there are small plastic partitions which prevent the spade terminal from being inserted

I finally found the fuse name it’s MICRO 2 ( the 2 at the end is very important because a MICRO will not fit)

eBay item number https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/112573749882 illustrates the type/size of fuse

The MICRO 2 doesn’t fit all of the fuse slots, only about 50% and the piggybacks won’t fit if they’re placed next to a relay, so you’re limited to the slots you can use

I’m still trying to source/ find the name of the other 3 pronged fuses, I’d like to have some spare in case one blows

They're micro 3 fuses you can find them on ebay.
Some people are like slinkies.... not good for much but bring a smile to your face when you push them downstairs.

Thanks very much Dodge20, identified at last
I’ve ordered a selection pack of various micro3 fuse ratings and 1 micro3 piggyback

I’ve recently read that one benefit is to reduce the size of the Fusebox because 1 fuse bridges 2 applications
Apart from that it seems Ford is trying to make life as difficult and complicated as possible
eBay items
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/143090430717 for micro3 piggyback
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/264051472039 for micro3 fuse selection
