Oil warning message

Postby NorthernDan » Wed Apr 17, 2019 7:42 pm

Evening all

I have a 67 plate custom with 28k on the clock I keep getting a change oil soon message upon starting the van
I’ve spoke to ford today and without even asking my reg year of van or what miles are on it
it was a simple it needs a service!!
I’ve have tried to search the forum but 100s of topics come up and I’m unsure how to narrow it down
I have checked the oil and it’s full!
Could I just ask is there any common fault?
Could they change it under warranty?
Sorry if this question as been done to death!!!!!
Could someone point me in the right direction
Thank you dan

28k without an oil change? :x

The oil and filter on my 67 plate Custom Sport gets changed every 6k. I've always done this on my vans. At scrappage allowance and p/ex against this Sport, my old Transit Connect had 254,000 miles on the clock, it never once dumped me at the side of the road, and the engine still ran like a sewing machine. Any decent diesel mechanic will tell you that it's the easiest way to get a huge lifetime out your engine. Ford's oil change interval recommendations are a joke - it's almost like they want your motor to wear out quickly so you'll buy a new one ......

Thank you very much for your reply’s much appreciated!
I’ve only had the van two weeks so started to flap with seeing the message!
Is it wise to get it serviced from ford?
If I get my own machanic does it void my warranty??

If your garage is vat registered and uses gen Ford parts it will not void the warranty ut if done by Ford it should get any updates to the software that he may not be able to do .
Have you got any service history with the van it may have been serviced but not had the warning turned off as you have to wait till it comes on to reset it you can reset it by holding all 3 pedals down with ignition on till it resets if unsure get it serviced or atleast a oil change with Ford oil and filler

Any consumable items like oil, filters, brakes, tyres, etc, can changed by the owner and it will not invalidate the warranty.
It would be best to use genuine items, especially the oil filter if a claim needs making.

Yes but it needs to be a vat registered garage and the service book filled in and the invoice and done in correct mileage and time line you can't just do it at home yourself

Well i've done it myself and not invalidated the warranty.
I'm not arguing with you.

All I can say is you have been lucky and maybe got a good relationship with your dealership my van is not serviced by Ford and had to have a very inexpensive repair for the dealership and Ford to approve it I had to take my invoice and service book the garage who do my mot and none Ford service work also gives a copy of gen Ford parts used with the invoice to every customer who has work done on any vehicle that is still under a manufacture warranty as he knows from experience what's libel to happen if not done correctly

Hi I have a 2016 2.0 custom which I bought new. I had it serviced with an oil change and updates at 16k in August. For the last few weeks the “change engine oil soon” light has been coming on when I start it up. When I phoned ford they said I would need to bring it in for them to look at but probably may needs an oil change! After 8k miles! I used to get 20k between services on my vito. I tried the holding pedals down reset with no success. Anyway I was speaking to a mechanic at a van hire depot the other day and he showed me how to reset it by going into settings where you get the option to cancel the warning. It only says change engine oil soon so I wouldn’t think it is harmful to reset as ford wouldn’t give you this option if it was.
