Ignition live 12v for subwoofer - Please help

Postby mturneruk » Fri Apr 19, 2019 4:19 pm

Hi all...

I have searched this forum high and low and google and i cant find the answer.

I am looking for a 12v source to power an active subwoofer which I want to put under the passenger seat.
I have a Euro 6 Transit custom (66 plate).

I need Plus / Minus and Remote turn on (e.g. Ignition).

I am wondering if i can get all this as well as the speaker connections by tapping into the loom from behind the factory unit.

- I do not seem to have "A customer Access point" in the fuse box which was written in one post. Looks like that was only on 2.2 diesel models.
- I cannot seem to find a connector with ignition feed under the drivers seat as suggested in another post.

Can anyone help?

Cheers
Martin

Why don't you connect straight to the battery and have an inline on/off switch?

Thanks for the suggestion - Don't fancy that because if i forget to turn it off i will end up with a flat battery.

Hi all

Had the meter out and I think i've sussed it.
You can get always on 12v from the main plug that goes in the back of the stereo (Red / Black blue).

It looks like the brown wire on the top most plug that plugs into the front fascia buttons gives ignition 12v.
E.g. 12v when iginition on and 0 when off.

Can anyone tell me if there is any reason why i can't use this as a remote turn on for my sub woofer?
Going to try fitting it later on today.

Cheers
Martin

my amp turns on with speaker input when it senses the stereo is on and then turns off via an inbuilt timer when no signal detected.

remember fuse size and cable current ratings if using existing wiring for new equipment - does you new equipment overload the stereo circuit ?

Negative can be taken from the chassis

So i have fitted that this afternoon. It works!

I have taken the + / - power from the main connector and the remote on / off from that brown wire on the pic.
When the ignition is off the sub powers down.

My active sub has gain and other controls so i can adjust the volume of that separately from the main sound.

The sub has its own 10amp fuse built into the the positive wire. Nothing has fused and i've been blasting it.
I have tapped into the speaker wires that come out of the main plug.

Cheers
Martin.

have you checked the fuse size for the stereo ? if it’s not adequate you could cause a fire in your wiring loom. The speaker wires have to run into the amp then back out again , not just tapping into them
