Missed this. It shouldn't stop the engine running I don't think but i know the 2014 mk8 would do that on the faulty low fuel thing at least on one vehicle anyway. It does seem that the later vans are taking over if the fault is dangerous.
If you've cleared the fault and it isn't coming back but flickering then it has to be a dodgy wire surely?
The connector for the abs module has a clear grease on it I think a to keep the damp out. I often see no comms from the abs to bcm even on my custom that has no faults. I put it to the power down system configuration. It doesn't cause any issues and throws no lamps up.
Need more info on that to confirm.
The mk7 as said has the front sensor issue, I have a feeling that I might have a faulty abs module but until I check that out I can't help.
Not sure what else to suggest.
Have you got 2 batteries? The custom seems more hungry than the mk7.
