Tyres 2017 transit custom sport

Postby WestLondonCooling » Tue Aug 06, 2019 9:47 am

Need new tyres in all four corners...

235/50r18 101W... seem to be eating the fronts and the rears have now gone after 24k

Any suggestions on a long lasting set of rubber?

Currently running Goodyear Eagle F1 asymmetric 2

Do they come with a free Confederate flag to stick on the roof?

Loads of threads on here relating to 18" Sport tyre wear - it's a known issue that they eat front tyres. I only got 8k out of my first front set of factory Goodyears, but strangely 13k out of the second set. Van's done just 21k and is now on its third set of fronts. Original rears are still good, 5mm or so. They also wear unevenly at the factory 44psi, I dropped the pressure to 40psi and they wear much better across the whole tread width.

Can't really recommend anything massively better, I've got a mate with a 70k Sport who's tried just about everything. A lot of the cheaper ones don't hold the road especially well in the wet, and what he's gained in slight wear improvements, he's lost in handling, safety and performance. I'm personally sticking with Goodyears because they're a known quantity.

Thanks for the reply...

I’ve only covered 24k and about to replace the fronts for the 3rd time and the tears for the first time.

I carry a lot of weight in the van... refrigerant bottles etc.. have tried all pressures, currently on 48psi

Think I’ll stick with the Goodyear’s, they handle great so will just have to bite the bullet

Don't suppose it would help to suggest buying some 16" alloys & stop being tarts with your big sport wheels?

It's a shame, friend has the same issue with his sport, fronts eat through tyres, while my 16" ones have done 36k at about half worn on the front and like new on the back.
I had the same problem with my Mondeo on 18" rims, got through tyres like nobody's business

18" rims do look sooo much better tho

If only I had stuck the the Custom Limited I had before this! That had 16s and was a much more comfortable ride
