Tyres

Postby Daveyandbev » Tue Oct 22, 2019 6:46 am

This may have been covered before so apologies if it has, we have the chance of 4 snow tyres on ford wheels which have 4/5 mm tread, would these be better in winter than or brand new road tyres that are already fitted? How good are these buses in the snow, as we live in a rural hilly area we've always had snow wheels and tyres.
Thanks

my 2017 had the standard conti tyres on it from new, and they were crap on flat wet grass [a cricket pitch out field], so I think snow would have been worse.

I now have some more aggressive treaded "all weather " Michelin tyres fitted and that has much improved the traction on wet grass, but not had snow to test on yet.

so it depends what tyres you have on now, but if they are the conti Van tyres with very narrow slits going across the width of the tyre and 3 deep & wide rings going round the tyre ... they will be crap and you want to change

1.6 mm is the legal limit and 4 to 5 mm on a set of used tyres is just false economy. They'll be worn down in no time.
Opening up a can of worms here , but when I was a courier I always fitted Michelin Agilis and found them to be the best all round, all weather tyres.

I've got the Agilis cross-climate all weather winter tyres on mine and they are great. Done nearly 20k miles and loads of tread left on the fronts. backs are hardly worn at all.
Seems that 16" tyres last muuuuuuch longer than 18"
