2017 or 2018

Postby wetdrink » Thu Dec 05, 2019 6:05 pm

Looking at a 2017 custom with 13,000 miles or 27,000 miles on a 2018 custom . near enough the same price.

Which would be the better van, year 17 or 18 ?

Any changes in the engine ?

Main dealer vans ,Thanks

Despite what the tinfoil hat wearers will have you believe, the vans get better all the time. Get the newer one, as it'll have more warranty left and will be a newer spec than the '17 van.

If you have a link to the dealers website, someone will be able to tell you what the difference is.

Thanks for reply, Vans are coming up for sale , lease px from original owner is the 17 and the 18 is ex hire from Ford dealers Swansea area.
Bought connect from their ex hire fleet in 07 and no problem with that .

is the 2018 the facelift van with the different dash and front? It was the year they changed over, so could be either.

^^^^This is exactly why you need to post all of the relevant info in your first post, that info completely changes the advice that I'd give.

I wouldn`t know the difference to be honest as just started looking for a small transit as not enough room in a connect for a motorbike.

Ok here`s some more info, the 17 looks like it`s never been cleaned and just driven for 13000miles over three years, the 18 hire one is very clean and looked after.

They will make the 17 look like new no doubt.

The 18 has a euro 6 engine I believe.

Asking to learn .

What model of Custom are they? You get Base (very basic), Trend (bit less basic), Limited (very high spec/full colour coding) and Sport (Few tweaks but similar to Limited) . Ford brought out a facelift model in 18 - doesn't have a bar through middle of front grille, now one piece, has a 2 litre engine and a Sync 3 (Limited and Sport) Infotainment which is way better than previous Sync 2. Good vans,. but try and get a Limited, you'll be surprised at the spec and be well pleased with it. I has a new 2017 Limited before my new 2018 Sport and both great vans.

The 2017 vans had the 2 litre engine as well, I think they changed to this in 2016, so the same basic engine. But Jackanson is spot on with his assessment.

They spived the 2017 up and I had a go of it ,very nice van . Too many dinks and front paint chips for me . Lastly i stood on rear wheel to see if they bothered to clean the roof and noticed four great big dents where the previous owner had overloaded the roof rack and it had pushed the roof in . Walked away from it.

That's the problem with ex-workie vans. Lots of people are careless. I had a lot of people after my 17 Limited, bought new, vat paid and used privately. Totally unmarked and only did 8K a year. Anyway I bought another van (Traffic) for my work which has a dented roof due to overloading. It leaks water into the rear - siliconed the obvious breaks in the sealant but there is still one to find. You were right to avoid it methinks. Bob

Bought an 18 plate with 21,000 miles on it for £17125 inc vat today.

Looked at Auto Capital in north London , but went with local main agents as London lot were a bit vague with answers to questions.
