CV joint seperated

Postby roarcam » Thu Mar 19, 2020 7:36 pm

So, arising out of a coil spring replacement on custom 2013, that has literally spiralled, I now have an inner cv joint that has seperated.
I've taken the hub off, re-packed the cv bearings with grease but cannot, for the fecking life of me, get the cv joint back together.
What's the best way to do this?
Thanks in anticipation...

Thanks but thats not quite what I need.
It's the CV joint that has come apart. I need to get the CV bearings back in the housing, which is not as easy as it looks.

Is this what you need? I couldn't get them to rotate but I guess you get the idea. Hope it helps.

Thanks man,
The real problem is that I get to figure 3.13a but I can't get it in any further. It's really strange. Any amount of wiggle and manipulation doesn't seem to work.
There's nothing obviously blocking it, it just seems really awkward.
I really appreciate you taking the time to send those images.

I guess it just needs a bit of brute force if nothing is obviously stopping it going in. Let me know if you need any more info, and good luck with it. :)

How did you go on with the CV joint. Have you managed to get it sorted?

I take it none of the roller bearings have fell out before anything , try put one bearing slightly in at a time keeping pot joint and bearing/shaft at an angle to each other while rotating and pushing together and see where theyre sticking but there's usualy no problem , mind there's a spring in centre of pot joint , like the message above it may need bit of brute force

Thanks guys, sorry I didn't reply sooner, I've been isolating with the family and putting the job off!
Will get to it soon. Thanks for all your help, I'll keep you posted.

Alright, so, just can’t get this in at all. Thinking about taking full drive shaft out.

I managed to get it back together, with the suggested brute force!
Not a nice job!
Anyway, that's it done. Just got the brake pipe to do now. a catalogue of jobs that all came from the coil spring.

Great news. It doesn't feel right at times using at bit of brute force I know, but sometimes you just have to give it a go. I was the same last week fitting new brake disc. The front ones was a right b*stard to get off. :D

I might be stuck with the brakes now. Lost a lot of fluid ad may not be able to bleed.
New bleed nipple on order due to rounded edges. Like I said, one job leads to another...
