remapping files

Postby suns » Wed Jul 01, 2020 3:53 pm

i read the other day an a different forum that the chip tuned files you buy online are original files and only tweaked files if over the factory standard

example
125 ps to 155 ps is just a ford original file
155 ps to 190 ps would be tweaked

if this is the case could i download the vbf from a 155 ps van and simply upload onto my 125 ps
if you can't fix it with gaffer tape or a cable tie ....it's really broke

They are the same engine running different stages of tune but I would be wrong to say I knew the answer to your question.... I doubt that has been tried - ever! All remap files are the original files with certain areas tweaked up (that is put very simplistically). No one would have a complete new file for the ecu, they keep the original and remove limiters and advance timing, fueling etc while keeping the basic original file.

The 125 and 155 map to the same level with most tuning houses and their files so why would you want a lesser Ford file? Use van tuner on here or get it remapped and let the van be all it can be.

I have had good results with bluefin from superchips if you want to try it yourself without using a file supplier and have the ability to return to stock anytime you choose.

I've done exactly that, updated my PCM from 125 to 155 using Ford files. It does work :)

Fair play.... didn’t think anyone would have done that when there are 40 more horses available for less bother.

It’s not exactly less bother. I had everything at home to flash it. So the only thing I had to do is download the vbf from Ford and 10min later all done.

You do not know what is in the random files off eBay. Ie. How well were the tweaks tested.
There is much more risk for you engine if you use a tweaked file as opposed to Ford provided file that was made for these vans.

Though some people say no risk no win. You might be lucky spending £30 and get a nice map.

Maybe that’s how you work  Strange that you admit it here though.

Hi There,
Could you send more info of tools needed to flash it and how to get the vbf file from ford please, I have just flashed my personal car and pleased with the results so now looking at doing my workvan as both me and the boss finds both our vans under powered but think he would be happier using a ford file than one from ebay. im a bit lost and not understanding this?

Files off eBay? are you mad?

if you load any of them on then don't moan when it ends in tears.

Plenty of remaps and software out there. Mine is Bluefin but there are so many out there....without having to risk an eBay file!

Use Van Tuner if you want a remap.... Martyn there will sort your van safely and well

Plug in box... someone like TDI Tuning

Self file upload... Bluefin or similar..

Forget eBay files!

To be fair that's the reason I am asking for more info on how to get the 155bhp file that Ford uses and not some other modified file. I was happy to use a file from Ebay on my own vehicle but not the works van, it's my own risk and so far happy with the result from doing it but have read conflicting views on doing the transit custom that some say it can be done via obd and others saying the ecu has to be opened up which I wouldn't be happy doing to be honest.

The opening of the ecu is no longer necessary.

It was the case when I had my first custom 3 years ago,.

I have just done this via OBD port.... takes 3 and a half minutes! Just time to make a cuppa while it loads.
