Transit Custom 2016 dpf active regenerating

Postby TonyRoofer » Sun Sep 13, 2020 12:14 pm

My 2016 transit custom always actively regenerates, particularly after a good motorway run! The exhaust becomes louder, the cabin slightly hotter and drives like cr#p around town (when in 1st or second gear).
Does anyone have this issue also. Ford say its normal, but don't understand why it needs to regenerate when it's driven hard enough with mostly motorway runs...

My 2014 custom seems to do the same after a good motorway run. I would have thought it wouldn't need to after such a journey but I'm no expert so what do I know  . I used to worry about it, expecting a problem but it's been absolutely fine.

Thanks Longhair. I'm no expert either, but pretty sure it's unnecessary. I've had mine a while too and like you say, not caused any issues, just annoys me :?

It’s pretty normal.... try as much as you can to let it finish its regen before turning off.... it dumps unburnt diesel into the sump if it isn’t allowed to complete..... only small amounts each time but it’s well worth keeping an eye on your oil level...many unfinished regens result in too much oil and problems.

Its just stupid that it doesn’t tell you on the dash that it is doing it mine has done it twice as I am parking up if you knew it was doing it you could carry on driving till complete.

That's the reason I fitted a LED into the heated window wiring so I could see when it is doing a regen, only trouble was I became obsessed watching it whenever it came on. So I left it connected but hid it behind the A pillar trim so I can still use it again if I want to for whatever reason.
