Engine Malfunction help - Electrical issue?

Postby AllKillerNoFill » Tue Feb 16, 2021 2:04 pm

Hi All,

I'm wondering if you could help me narrow down the cause of an issue that has plagued by van for a while now. I have a 63 plate Transit Custom Trend 125 I L22.2TDC.

The issue is, occasionally I receive an error stating Engine Malfunction, it usually happens in combination of having an ABS malfunction, Traction Control malfunction, & Hill Start Assist malfunction and typically happens either during torrential rain or high humidity, which leads me to suspect is is an electrical issue however i don't want to rule out anything.

I've checked with two garages now and they've been unable to diagnose the issue and their fault readers cannot seem to narrow down the issue too, hence me turning to this forum to help :)

The errors codes are as follows

C140_00 U0140_00 - Lost Communication With Body Control Module
c121_00 U0121_00 - Lost Communication With The Anti-lock Brake System Control Module
c159_00 U0159_00 - Lost Communication With Parking Assist Control Module 'A'
c151_00 U0151_00- Lost Communication With Restraints Control Module
1607_82 p1607 - Powertrain Control Module Internal Circuit Malfunction
1607_87 p1607 - Powertrain Control Module Internal Circuit Malfunction

Those codes suggest to me that there is a break in the wiring loom somewhere, probably caused by rubbing, but i'm not sure what section of the wiring loom those systems have in common to help narrow down my search area.

Has anyone experienced a similar issue or do you have any advice on where to look?

I'm based in the North East if anyone knows of a garage that charges sensible rates that will be able to diagnose and fix the issue for me.

Thanks in advance.

Have a look at the BCM multi plug they can suffer from water ingress.

Thank you for the reply, i'm not sure where the BCM multiple plug is, the Haynes Manual for the van is pretty terrible for component locations.

Is the BCM multiplug the one directly under the bottom left of the windscreen on the near side? I was doing some more investigating over the weekend and did open up that connector (not sure if it is the BCM one) and there was a slight big of liquid as i pulled the two parts apart but not sure it would have been past the seal. I did try to reproduce the issues by pouting some water on there but couldn't trigger the fault event.
