Cargo Barrier Modifications

Postby coloze9924 » Thu Feb 25, 2021 12:14 am

Hi there,
Just wondering if anyone has modified a 2020 Custom Sport DCIV cargo barrier so that longer items can be placed through to under the rear seats. I install blinds and quite often have blinds 2.6m - 3m in length. Any tips or advice would be much appreciated before I get the grinder out.

I looked at doing this on my 2016. The rear row of seats had a solid sheet of steel running along the bottom for rigidity/strengthening and it would have meant cutting through it so I obviously stopped. I would have only gained around 300mm iirc.

Check under the seats before you decide as they are structural (or at least they were in the 2016). Cutting or adapting the bulkhead is easy though, it’s the rear bench that needs careful consideration... it may not get through an MOT with the seats compromised.

Any good:

My 2018 L2 DCIV has no steel sheet (mentioned above) on the lower section of the back of the rear seats and the cage on the front of them unclips, this wound give an additional length of 1.1mtrs over the length of the cargo area alone.

Nice!

I’m glad they’ve changed the rear bench design. That’s a really good solution above.... and an 1100 improvement is well worth the hassle to do the job.

I have now ordered one of the hatches as occasionally I also have to carry 2.4mtr lengths and although they will fit diagonally sometimes it’s a PITA to get them in, once fitted I'll post a couple of pictures... apparently fitting is straight forward and can be done with the bulkhead in situ.

Looks like a good bit of kit I may get one for my camper but I’d fit it upside down and clip it back when open if it will open through 180 degrees so you don’t stand on it when open I would do the same if I fitted it in a van as I could see it getting damaged with it laying on the floor when open like when pulling a ladder out it could drop on to the door .

OK... Its arrived.

The hatch appears very well made, the hatch door itself looks to be carpet covered 12mm ply with a rubber/pvc trim and the frame painted (sprayed) hardwood/hardwood ply with quality fittings.

3mtrs... no problem:

It took about an hour and a half to fit despite "help" from my 10yo son!! half hour of that was getting the tools out and clearing up.

Looking good does the door open through 90 degrees or will open 180 if I fitted it with the hinges at the top cheers.

With the hinges supplied only 90°, changing the hinges to a different type it should do 180.

Looks good.
I did a slightly more basic version on my 2017 DCIV - just cut out a rectangle from the bulkhead, inside the seat support legs.
I was going to make up a hatch, but the noise level didn't increase, so I never got round to it. The extra length was extremely useful, with front cage removed.

No longer required as I've done a camper conversion on it :D
