Transit custom flat spots

Postby wayno199 » Tue Jun 29, 2021 10:28 am

Hi guys, I have a 2015 transit custom sport 2.2 at around 1500 revs I have a sort of flat spot, once through that range it revs up fine. no codes are showing. Its had a service at ford and I have replaced the fuel filter and a new EGR but still the same problem.

any ideas would be appreciated

Think that's pretty standard. Give the turbo time to spool up and for it to get to the power band past 2k rpm. If you want a little more low down torque, consider a remap but even then you'll still struggle with power at low revs

its not standard mate. it was fine before the BCM went in January. then the BCM went again. after a lot of arguing with the Ford dealer they finally replaced the BCM and fixed the windscreen seal where the water was getting in. now it is struggling at low revs

Wouldn't Ford have re-flashed the software when fitting the new BCM, there by overwriting the modified map with the original?

I’ve got one of these vans and so do a few friends and they all do this between 1500-2000rpm like a misfire feel to it and I know two of them did it on standard software and he now has a quantum map 180 and I have the Celtic 200 and they both still do it.

It's not standard, non of mine ever did it. It probably is standard with a Celtic Tuning map though

You're not driving it right. Sport vans shouldn't be allowed to drop below 2,000 rpm.

Lol tbf it does goes well on the Celtic map pulls on my mates quantum mapped van so the power difference is there, plus you say it’s not standard but I know 6 vans that all do it on standard and mapped software so how can you sat it’s not something they just do doesn’t make sense I even spoke to a Ford tech once when I was scrounging for some whee nuts and he said they do it so I dunno

Had the same problem. It was the EGR causing it - it was fluctuating under gentle acceleration between 1500-2000. The EGR was working fine but something else was commanding it to open and close rapidly causing the hesitation. Mapped it out and problem is gone.

To test - unplug MAF and go for a test drive. When MAF is unplugged the EGR will be disabled too. But if you carry on driving like so you will get an error on your dash so be ready to clear it when it appears.

I had my van re-mapped by Martyn Vantuner and it runs fantastic but still retains that low down fluffiness it did as a standard 100bhp but I just drive around it, after 1500rpm its gone. I think it is an inherent design issue were ever turbo's are used.

Bubba when I get home Ima gonna whoop your Mamas ass, cos sure as hell you never came from my loins
