“Change oil soon”

Postby ryandavis » Mon Jul 26, 2021 3:44 pm

Hi guys

I’ve had this message pop up, and the service was done last September at ford’s just 6k miles ago…..is this normal?

Normally change the oil every year but was doing 15k miles and never seen this before

Van is 67 plate 2.0

Thanks

It’s probably just needs resetting when they service the van they can’t turn it off till it comes on you can turn it off by turning the ignition on and holding the throttle and brake down till it goes out or on the message system on the steering wheel had to do it on mine but can’t remember witch way .

Be careful with just resetting the light. The whole timing belt inspection/failure thing going on at the moment is laying the blame at oil dilution by diesel. I'm thinking if the van is fully updated with the latest software, could you have oil dilution and therefore risk of belt damage?

Do the vans have a way of telling now then if that’s the case?

My understanding is. (I'm no expert but am running 2 of these vans.) The van can calculate approximately how much fuel ends up diluting the engine oil in the sump. It knows mileage, coolant temp, number of regens completed and plenty of other data.
The reason I mentioned is the van up to date with Ford is our 16 plate van (2.0) had at least 3 dealer visits for that message. Varying between 4k and 8k mile intervals. Each time I believe the software was updated and one visit included fitting a shorter dipstick.
Warning now no longer comes on early.

Oh I see.

I remember a 69 plate I drove had an oil section in the menu, my 18 plate doesn’t so I wondered if they’ve added something to newer models maybe.

Our 16 plate van also had the ability to reset the light from the dash when it was new. After one of the dealer updates that option disappeared.

Oh, that’s useful !

Mine doesn’t show any recalls so I’m assuming / hoping it’s all up to date!

Hi mate,

yeah everything is up to date software wise and I’ve just had the timing belt recall done and they say the belt is all ok

Just tricky as i know doing low miles like i have now can make it hard to complete regens and then I don’t wanna pay £145 for them to “check it” and say it just needs new oil :o

Millers oils offer a oil sampling service. ( not sure if can detect Diesel)
Think it’s £35. Or put that money towards a oil change? Do it yourself. Extraction method.
Reset the light yourself?
Guess it boils down to if we trust the message.

The bus company that I worked for before we got took over by one of the big boys every 28 day inspection we used to take a oil sample and send it off to be tested if you really wanted to be sure that it’s not a time thing that brings the message up or the engine has a oil sensor and it does need changing.
On my mk6 and my 2.2 mk8 both have had oil changed at no more then 6000 miles and I’ve had to wait till service light on mk6 and message comes upon mk8 .
With the 2.0 having a wet belt it’s certainly a worry if you change the oil will it reset itself or will it need to be plugged in or reset by the old method you really need to find out how it works on the 2.0 .
