fitting a oem reverse camera 2017

Postby glenandemm » Wed Sep 08, 2021 1:59 pm

hi guys about to buy a 2017 custom limited and it doesn't have a reverse camera or sat nav but has the colour display and reverse sensors, rather than fit an aftermarket camera and screen I'd be interested in fitting an camera that possibly pops up on display if its possible.
I have forscan to activate it but is it possible to do or will I need to change the head unit?

I'd also like to know this, I have a 2017.5 Tourneo Custom with similar setup, that is the colour screen but no sat nav. I wonder if we can just use any auxiliary style camera but plugged into the correct Ford(?) adapter into the back of the head unit?

- I too have Forscan.

Did either of you have any joy with retrofitting an OEM reversing cam on to a tailgate door (rather than barn doors)?

Is the wiring already present (part of the tailgate release?) or does it need additional cabling? Did it plug-and-play straight into the Sync 3 headunit (with the reversing overlay lines that move with the steering wheel)?

Which sync version do you have? There are various custom leads available to adapt the factory fitted system. IIRC sync 3 is preferable.

It's a used 70-plate with Sync 3 (ICE25). I was (optimistically) hoping the wiring loom would already be in place - just not connected. And so is simply a case of swapping the tailgate handle for one with a camera fitted and plugging in the connector... Too much to hope for?

My Van has Sync 3 with Nav and has 5 icons on the bottom of the screen. That link says "this product is not compatible with your vehicle"!
I seem to remember someone on here adding the input wires to the back of their head unit and fitting their own camera very cheaply, definitely cheaper than the £448 +install Ford want. You might need to search for it.

Just had a reverse camera fitted to my 70 plate, uses the factory screen and needs new cabling, you only get the moving lines if you have the newer sync 2.5 , took about 1.5hrs to fit and needs cable running all the way front to back, i also fitted the camera near the number plate for the Oem look
