Heated windscreen & Pre fuse box.

Postby chippy25 » Fri Dec 10, 2021 9:40 am

Morning All,

New here so hopefully ill get some help and answers.

I brought my Transit Custom on Wednesday this week. Its a 2018 Transit Custom Limited P/V L2 H1.

The heated screen only clears on side the drivers side. Iv looked into solutions and its the fuse on the pre fuse box, fuse location F7 and the fuse is an 80A. I cant seem to find the pre fuse box but been told its under the drivers seat...? DO you have to remove the seat to get to the pre fuse box? Has anyone else had this heated screen problem?

Help needed...

Thank you

I don't have a Custom, so hopefully, someone who does may be of more help, but IF it's the same as a Mk7, you can get to the box by sliding the drivers seat fully forward, and sliding out the battery cover from the front.
The pre-fuse box is to the left of the rear battery, and has a black plastic cover. You may have to remove the battery retainer bracket to remove the fuse box cover.

It's always possible that the screen itself is faulty, it's not unknown for them to stop working :(

If it's a single battery setup, @Altransit 's advice will see you through.

Pre fuse box looks something like this (from my 2021 Custom Sport).

Fuse setup may be a little different on yours. Hopefully you have the 3 x 80a Customer Connection Point fuses.

I only had 1 x 150a and 1 x 60a

Put drivers seat all the way forward.

Take out battery

Take out battery 'bucket', being careful with the wiring for the electric seat.

It's on a 45 degree angle behind the battery bucket. Can't get to it without taking it (bucket) out unfortunately, but it's not too hard getting it out

Arrow points to Pre Fuse Box behind battery, and under battery cablingImage

Might need to have a few small cable ties spare as you need to cut some to shift the cabling

Pull the screen trim off inside van on the side that’s not working, see if you have power to the heated screen connector with it switched on,see if there’s an earth at other terminal,if so screens likely faulty.

The fella that fitted the screen will test the new screen tomorrow???

If you follow Frag's advice above, and test for power at the screen connector, that will give you a clue as to whether the fault is with the screen, or the van electrics

I had 4 screens on the trot before they got both sides working under warranty at the Ford dealership! Admittedly that was when the Customs first came out back in 2013 but maybe they still have diabolical quality control at the manufacturers?
