Custom 2014 125ps Cam Belt Change

I'm about to buy a 2014 2.2 125ps model and the current mileage is 65000 with full service history.

I've looked up the belt change interval and found 150000 or 10 years, although that may relate more to the newer 2.0 engines?

Given it is currently around 7.5 years old, what would people recommend as to when to change it please? I was thinking at 9 years as i will only do approx 5000 miles a year and it won't be overly stressed.

My current MK7 snapped the belt at 120000, when it was supposedly changed at 80000!

Neither the Mk7, nor your 2.2 Custom, have a cambelt, they both use a chain :?

The later 2.0 engines use a belt (2 actually!)

Well that's obviously news to me, i know about the auxiliary belt but....... :shock:

So when the garage explained to me the cam belt went on the MK7 it was either a load of BS or they actually meant chain!

No need to worry on that score then with the Custom, what about the chain tensioner, although i assume it would start to rattle before getting anywhere near to failing?
