Auto Beam Lights for Custom Transit 2018.

Hi All.

Im having a few problems fitting aftermarket lights to my Transit Custom. The factory fitted lights arnt very good so went down the AutoBeam brand as my son recommended them. ( he did his ford fiesta)

When you order from the site the lights are model specific and should fit but the high beam lamps just dont, I have contacted Auto Beam but have herd their are resales is poor (unfortunately after I purchased) The fog lamps fitted perfectly so wondered if anyone had a similar problem here.

Are they Legal?
From my understanding they are not and your van will fail its MOT, I found this online…..

“The changes made in May 2018 to UK MOT law banned HID conversion for halogen headlamp reflectors and this was extended to include LED conversions in January 2021”

What spec of van (3 headlight options are available) and which exact bulbs did you order? Strange that you think that the main beam is poor though, I always thought that the low beam was the weak point on the Custom.

I thought they were legal yes, Auto Beam are a UK company.

The low beam is out of stock but the main beam is far to big to install so i think its the wrong one. Im sure they will get back to me after the holiday period.

As Mike has already said, there are three different headlight options fitted to the Transit custom, if your Van has the basic standard halogen headlights you cannot put LED or HID lamps in them and legaly use it on the road.

"Section 4.1.4 of the current MOT inspection manuals for both motorcycles and cars and passenger vehicles states ‘Existing halogen headlamp units should not be converted to be used with high intensity discharge (HID) or light emitting diode (LED) bulbs. If such a conversion has been done, you must fail the headlamp."

Sorry thought I had question.

It’s a 2018 limited full spec van.

I’ll take a pic of the headlights as I’m not sure which version they are.... maybe you can enlighten me.

Full spec would have HID as an option? Anyway, I guess you have halogen bulbs in the projectors?

So you need H1 main beam and you bought H15?

When I looked at the lamp detail I thought it may be the H1 as they are a lot smaller...

I'm glad I'm not the only one then that finds the dipped beam lights rather poor.
I too have the projector headlights.
I went to auto bulbs direct and fitted the twenty20 led for projector lights at a cost of £80. I can't say as they made much difference. I may just try the Philips ultinon but at £135 for the pair I'm struggling to justify it.

Also what is of annoyance and doesn't help is the shadow of the dash half way up the windscreen. Where the tray is creates a darker patch right in the eyeline. Crouch lower and you look through a lighter part of the screen!

The first thing to do is get them aligned correctly on a MOT beam tester.

i fitted something similar many years ago to my 16 plate and never had an issue with mot

Again OEM light are crap and i tried all the bulbs out there before going led

horizon led i used

you have to adjust the lamp when it’s in place to get the beam angle correct

it made a massive difference to the lights and have not looked back

you do get beam fault though every time lights come on
